The 21st edition of Pecha Kucha Night Vancouver was, as expected, a great success again. The night was filled with many inspiring presenters who offered great advice, insight into their creative processes, and expositions of their world renowned work.
Recently, we signed and sent a petition off to our local MP to voice our concerns with The Copyright Modernization Act Bill C-11. The following is the response, which I was very happy to read and encouraged by it’s message.
Dear neighbours,
Thank you all for writing and raising your serious concerns regarding Bill C-11 and Bill C-30. My office as well as the offices of my NDP colleagues have received hundreds of emails and letters in opposition to these Bills. First, please know that we share the concerns of many Canadians who oppose legislation relating to lawful access, ACTA, digital locks, and SOPA. NDP Copyright and Digital Issues critic Charlie Angus and NDP Public Safety critic Jasbir Sandhu are taking the lead on these issues.
We have been fighting Bill C-30 with all of our vigour and energy and have continued to defend digital rights for Canadians in Bill C-11 and push for better access.
Many Canadians feel the same way you do, in fact I have encountered those who voted Conservative last time around, saying now they do not believe these Bills were what they voted for and had they known the Conservatives were bringing them forward, they would never have supported the Conservatives in the last election. On Wednesday, March 14th 2012 GLOBE 2012 Vancouver had an event hosted by Encana Natural Gas: a panel discussion on North America’s Energy Mix.
This event was very interesting in that it was primarily filled with students with hopes that questions would be raised, and ideas discussed with the impressive mix representing the panel.Hopefully somebody was taking notes.
The Northern Gateway Pipeline Project is a tragedy to Canada, an absolute tragedy.
What is the proposition? To create a pipeline from Bruderheim, Alberta to Kitimat, British Columbia that sends crude oil to the international shipping port in Kitimat that can quickly, in a “streamlined fashion” get to the greedy Asian markets.
As expected, Pecha Kucha Night Vancouver #20 was great. Vancouver’s edition of Pecha Kucha, which began in Japan by the people shown below. To clear up any confusion I will quote their “What is It” section of their page:

This past weekend, February 3rd and 4th, was Hobiyee (@HobiyeeEvent), a Nisga’a Ts’amiks (@NisgaaTsamiks) New Years celebration held at the PNE Agridome in Vancouver BC. To say the least, it was humbling to watch; so many beautiful costumes, dancers, songs, and people everywhere. Most of us by now should know about TEDx(insert city name here). Well, for those of you that don’t I’ll quote you the TED mission statement:
Ideas worth spreading
The x part, as you can see from the title image, means that they are independently organized TED events. Ideas for the community, to help bring the community together through awareness, worthy causes, and interaction with like minded people. All things good.
A friend of Chronicles of Times, Carol-Lynne, who has organized the first ever TEDxVictoria last year, 2011, has been accepted to attend the TEDxSummit in Doha, Qatar; an event exclusively for TEDx organizers with a goal to help teach each other lessons through a week of talks and workshops, with hopes that the international communication will help at a community level of the independently organized TED events.
Her motivation is obvious when she says: “I’m not asking for a specific amount – hugs and other forms of support are welcome. 😀 I feel privileged to have been invited to attend TEDxSummit. I will make this happen. TEDxVictoria must live on and grow!”
This event is very cool. 500 organizers from around the world will be attending, and I couldn’t think of a better representative for the west coast of Canada to go than Carol-Lynne.
However, Carol-Lynne needs our help to send her there. Please take a moment, if nothing else, to read about who she is and what she expects to do over in Doha, as well as what she expects to take from it in her future endeavors in this world.

Pecha Kucha Night is Vancouver’s version of the world wide Pecha Kucha, now at 449 cities across the globe. It has a beautiful format: 20 pictures with 20 seconds for each picture.
